Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site is a lovely beach access park just south of Waldport, near milepost 157 on US 101 on the Oregon coast. The park offers parking, restrooms, picnic tables, and access to a long sandy beach with a long view south toward Yachats and Cape Perpetua. Just to the north, at Yaquina John Point, the beach curves inland into the mouth of the Alsea Bay, offering a nice view of the Alsea Bay Bridge. At low tide, it appears one can walk all the way to the bridge.
I recommend walking a couple miles south along the beach to see The Big Stump. You might have to ford a couple of small creeks on the way.
