Sitka Sedge State Natural Area

Sitka Sedge State Natural Area offers day-use hiking and sightseeing in the Sand Lake area along the Three Capes Loop.  There are 3.5 miles of sight-seeing trails through estuarine wildlife habitats and forested sand dunes around the south end of Sand Lake.  You can hike out through forested dunes to a beach  34A   34B  with views from Cape Lookout to the sea stack at Cape Kiwanda.  Northward on the beach is the mouth of Sand Lake; southward is Tierra Del Mar, which looked walkable on the beach.

The park opened summer 2018, and a year later had mostly gravel parking, pit toilets, and no trash service.  There is no mobile phone service here.  The magic of the place is exploring the trail network, the wildlife, and the views of Sand Lake and the beach.
