Contemporary media practice involves a rigorous investigation of, and engagement with continually evolving technologies. Our digital arts program encourages students to combine an understanding of the theoretical discourses of new media and visual arts with strong technical sophistication, a rich sense of visual design and an ability to articulately express themselves as artists.

Interactive Digital Art
Interactivity in Digital Arts can mean many things. From data-collecting interactive installations in art galleries to Web 2.0 Internet platforms, from hacking into sensors in video game systems to exploring circuitry and robotics, this course will delve into the rich field of Interactivity across various disciplines and media. The unifying thread of this exploration is the question of how Interaction and User Experience have been utilized in art practice historically and where this burgeoning field might lead the creative fields in the future.
Human Interaction by Dorothy Siemens ARTD252 Final Project (Winter '10)
Dorothy Siemens examines human relationships through two variables - X & Y. By moving your mouse across the X axis, you control one character, and by spanning the Y axis you control the other.This allows for synchronicity or discord between the two based on the mouse position. Student Andrew Pomeroy creates a voyeuristic film-noir world where the closer you look, the more you see. The project was executed in Flash CS3 and is highly interactive.
