Standard Planning Data Sources
Planners commonly rely on a number of data sources for planning-related research. Knowing the "home" of a data source can make your research efforts substantially more efficient. Following is a brief list of typical data sources.
For Oregon Data Resources you should start at the UO Library Oregon Data Resource Page.
- Libraries
- Federal agencies
Fedworld
The Federal Information Locator
- State agencies
Oregon Online

Oregon Building Industries AssociationPlanners often rely on much more specific demographic and economic data. While some of that data can be found at some of the links above, I have provided a much more detailed list. The development of this list required sacrifices; data sources overlap topics, multiple agencies generate similar data sets, an increasing amount of data are available in electronic format. Thus, this list doesn't come close to being comprehensive, nor is intended to.
Its purpose is to provide places for you to start looking for information relevant to the course assignments and project.
I have also included a standard set of planning links that include data sources, and important planning sites. Some redundancy exists with the list presented on this page.
