Institute Facilities
Participants will work in facilities that are among the best in the nation. In the West, the laboratory space at the University of Oregon is housed in Willamette Hall, a fifteen year-old Physics building which is famous for its Charles Moore architecture and modern laboratories. In the East, participants in the institutes at Dickinson College will use the specially-designed Workshop Physics laboratory spaces in the six year-old Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics and Computer Science building. The layout of the physics workshop laboratory, illustrated below, is based on a design developed at the College that has been copied in dozens of new and remodeled physics laboratories around the country.
Both sites are equipped with new Macintosh and Windows computers equipped with both Lab Pro/Logger Pro and Data Studio systems with complete sets of probes, and all of the software tools described under Physics Suite Computer Tools. All of the computers have high-speed internet connections.
