Workshop -- Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)

This workshop will provide an introduction to Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and will cover the application, use, and interpretation of SEM methods with emphasis on applications in educational and social science research. The goal of the workshop  is to gain familiarity and build expertise in the use of latent variable models within a structural equation modeling framework. The workshop includes consideration of covariance structures, path diagrams, path analysis, model identification and testing, analysis of regression-type models, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), hybrid and latent variable models. Additional topics and methods including model respecification, invariance testing, growth modeling, and bootstrapping will be discussed. The workshop will demonstrate use and interpretation of the AMOS software, a very user friendly SEM program that incorporates a powerful graphical user interface (GUI). Emphasis in the workshop is on concepts and principles, the use and interpretation of SEM software, and understanding of research using SEM techniques.

Please direct any questions to Joe Stevens at stevensj@uoregon.edu.

If you want to use the AMOS software demonstrated in the workshop you can:

  •  download and install the free student version of AMOS
  •   read the tutorial on the use of AMOS for SEM developed by Tor Neilands at the University of Austin-Texas. The file is in   Adobe acrobat pdf format.   Introduction to SEM using AMOS
