About the EMC Elementary and Upper Division I Instructors

Maria Nemirovskaya attended a Math Circle in Moscow as a teen. She received her M.S. in mathematics from the Brigham Young University in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2002. Maria is currently an Instructor of Mathematics at the University of Oregon. In the winter of 2013 she taught at Berkeley and Marin Math Circles for the elementary school students.

About the EMC Upper Division II Instructor


David Steinberg is an Instructor of Mathematics at the University of Oregon. He completed his PhD in algebraic geometry at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Jim Bryan. Apart from mathematics, David enjoys bicycling, cooking from scratch, and collecting unusual books.

About the EMC Upper Division III Instructors


Arkady Vaintrob is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oregon. He has been involved in teaching various Math Circles and advanced math programs for middle and high school students since being an undergraduate student in Mathematics at the Moscow State University.

Victor Ostrik is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oregon. He has been advising several high school students working on math research projects. Victor has been in Eugene since 2003.
