We undertook two pandemic-related projects: (a) we conducted a stated-preference choice-experiment survey of the general population across the U.S. states of California, Oregon, and Washington. This survey was designed to elicit tradeoffs that people would be willing to make with respect to reductions in county-level COVID-19 cases and deaths at the expense of county-level unemployment, reduced average household incomes, and restrictions on ten types of activities; (b) we undertook a re-analysis of some existing 2003 nationwide data that permitted us to build a model suitable for benefits-function transfer to estimate nationwide 2021-22 willingness to bear the costs of reductions in county-level cases and deaths (net of any premium for communicable disease).
