Environmental Education Initiative

Wetland Team: This team worked in
collaboration with the Willamette Resources and
Educational Network (WREN) in the West
Eugene Wetlands. Students helped create and implement outreach programs. They also assisted in
delivering guided field trips to the broader
Eugene community.

Forest Team: This team worked in collaboration with the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest to enhance its educational outreach programs. They created an interpretive trail brochure for the Lookout Creek old-growth trail, developed lesson plans that enable educators to teach about old-growth forests both in the classroom and on the trail, and also implemented their lessons on guided hikes and in local classrooms.

Marine Team: While studying at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, OR, this team provided assistance to the Oregon State Park system by serving as environmental educators and interpreters in the rocky intertidal ecosystem within Sunset Bay and Cape Arago State Parks. All programs, whether for school groups or general public audiences, are designed to help raise awareness of coastal environmental issues.

X-Stream Team: In collaboration with the Middle
Fork Ranger District of the Willamette National
Forest, this team focused on educating K-12 students in the Willamette Valley about streams and restoration efforts designed to improve degraded streams using an innovative educational tool: the Stream Simulator.
