HEAT EXCHANGES THROUGH CONDUCTION
Since the windows in Gerlinger Hall are single-glazed, quite a bit of heat can be gained or lost. According to table 4.13 in MEEB, the U-value for a single-glazed assembly is 1.30 Btu/ h ft2°F. To obtain (tchange), we assumed an interior design temperature of 68°F, and used table A.1 in MEEB to obtain the winter design dry-bulb temperature of 22°F.
t = 68°F - 22°F = 46°F
Aglazing = 702 ft2
Qconduct = UA (tchange)
= (1.30 Btu/h ft2°F) (702 ft2) (46°F)
=41,979 Btu/h
Qconduct = 41,979 Btu/h
