About This Print
A collector of old foreign language books, Kawakami loved depicting the objects he found in them. This print uses a number of the artist's favorite objects - lamps, jars, a clock, and geisha. The Yokohama Museum of Art has a hand-colored version of this print shown below.
In addition to numerous prints depicting these objects, Kawakami devoted an entire book to the lamp (ranpu ランプ) as can be seen in the below images.
