Beachside State Recreation Site is a lovely beach access campground and park near milepost 159 on US 101 on the Oregon coast, at Wakonda Beach just south of Waldport. The seasonal park offers parking, restrooms, picnic tables, yurts, tent camping, and day use access 70 to a long sandy beach stretching north to Waldport and south toward Yachats. The campground side to the south offers another beach access numbered 70A.
Walk a mile north along the beach, crossing Little Creek, to see The Big Stump and ponder its mystery. Another easy mile beyond is Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site.
To the south, crossing a few creeks and a mile or two of sand, is Tillicum Beach, and beyond that several miles down, the town of Yachats. This is a long beach; hikable at low tide from the south end of the Alsea Bay Bridge in Waldport to the north side of Yachats where the rocky shore begins.
