About Us
What is MSA?
The MSA, established in 1971, is one of the oldest student associations in the university. Students from all the undergraduate and graduate schools at University of Oregon participate in the MSA, contributing to its multi-faceted diversity. The MSA is dedicated to creating a strong Muslim community on campus by providing a space for Muslims to interact with one another as well as the larger University of Oregon community. MSA events and initiatives are aimed at promoting a greater understanding of the religion of Islam among all members of the Eugene community. The MSA aims to strengthen the Muslim community while concomitantly building strong relations with the larger university and local community. This is done through various types of activities and events, ranging from interfaith community service projects to weekly Friday prayers.
Purpose
"By Time (through the ages), verily Man is in loss, except those who have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, Patience and Constancy." - Qur'an: Al-`Asr, Surah 103
The purpose of the Muslim Student Association is to work for the sake of Allah (The most Exalted) by following the Qur'an and the example set by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).Vision
Our vision is to be a prosperous organization that can provide creative activities and ideas. To help people become aware of the Islamic society, and the positive cultural values that it brings throughout the campus. Besides that, corresponding to the word “Islam” itself that also means “peace”, we want to create a peaceful environment with regard to understanding and respecting other religions and beliefs.
Mission
MSA strives to accomplish an adequate environment for the Muslim students, strengthen the relationship between Muslims and Non-Muslims, and raise the awareness of Islam throughout campus. As an organization, we aim to be conducive and inclusive for those who wish to understand, appreciate, and practice Islam without compromising their morals and beliefs. We aim to create facilitative environment for Muslim students from different background and ethnicity to meet and exchange ideas, debunk misconceptions, and work together to understand and spread the true message of Islam as in accordance with the Quran and the Sunnah - life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
