STEPHANIE CARRIERE

Raised in Gresham, Oregon, Stephanie is an avid writer and loves the chaos of newsrooms. Her interest in journalism began in high school when she worked as the sports and news editor for the Gresham Argus school newspaper. Stephanie is currently spreading her wings and focusing behind the camera work while in college. Throughout her college career Stephanie has had numerous experiences that have really served her interest in sports. She was a sports intern for KMTR. She has also volunteered the past two years for ESPN and FOX Sports while working the Pre Fontaine Classic as an infield correspondent, and she has worked for CBS Sports for Oregon basketball. She has also done in-studio and on location job shadowing at KGW in Portland. Stephanie has also been an intern for the University of Oregon Athletic Department for two and a half years. Right now Stephanie is looking forward to volunteering for the 2008 Track and Field Olympic Trials after she graduates. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys writing, working out, and spending time with her boyfriend and family in Portland.

ERIN CHAMPION

Erin Champion decided to trade her sunglasses for an umbrella when she chose to leave her native California for the University of Oregon. Drawn to Oregon by its excellent School of Journalism and Communication, Erin has taken advantage of much of what the school has to offer. She is an Electronic Media major and is currently pursuing her interests in Advertising, which time-permitting could be her second emphasis. For the past year Erin has reported, anchored and helped produce for the news segment of Duck U, the only campus variety television show. When she’s not out reporting or editing in the computer lab, Erin is probably reading a history book. Erin’s other major is history. Even though school takes up a good deal of her time, Erin enjoys playing on her intramural soccer teams and helping coach a girls youth soccer team. She is interested in pursuing a career in some form of broadcast journalism and looks forward to learning more about documentary filmmaking in the future.

RACHEL CRIST

Rachel Crist is a senior at the University of Oregon and will be graduating in June with undergraduate degrees in Electronic Media, News and Editorial and Political Science. Her passion for reporting news was strengthened by her late uncle, a prominent broadcast and print journalist in the Northwest, who ensured her that everyone has a story if you’re willing to listen. Torn between newspaper and television, she fully intends on pursuing both and dreams of having both a handle and a byline simultaneously. She has agreed to give up time, money and sanity to reach her goal for the same reason media mogul Henry Luce did. Luce said “I became a journalist to come as close as possible to the heart of the world."

NELSON HUANG

Nelson is a senior at the University of Oregon. He is majoring in journalism. A native of Taiwan, Nelson plans to pursue a career in sports broadcasting upon graduation. The upbeat pace of sporting events along with his passion for athletics validate his desire to get involved in sports reporting. Nelson has interned for the KVAL sports department and is eager to work as a sports producer in the future. He would also like to pursue a career as a news producer if given the chance.

FLETCHER JOHNSON

Originally from Gresham, Oregon, Fletcher is an avid sports fan who hopes to cover football, golf, or baseball for ESPN. He lettered in four sports during his time at Gresham High School. He enjoys all aspects of broadcasting but sports remains his focus. He is currently working as an anchor and producer for the campus variety show, DuckU. He has also become a part-time producer of the program as well. Some of his best attributes include his time management, hard work and attention to detail. Fletcher is a big Oregon Duck fan who has been to over 100 football games in his lifetime. After college, Fletcher hopes to get a job in the Portland area to pursue his journalistic career.

HEBA KANSO

A native Oregonian, Heba Kanso is a junior at the University of Oregon. She is pursuing an electronic media major and communications and comparative literature minors. Heba would like to work her way up in the broadcasting business and eventually become an international correspondent. She speaks Arabic thanks to her Lebanese background and is hoping to go back there soon. Her background has had tremendous impact on her decision to pursue a career in the field of international news. In her spare time, Heba loves to paint, run, and hang out with family and friends.

DINA KUPFER

Dina Kupfer is a junior at the University of Oregon majoring in electronic media and majoring in business administration. An avid sports fan, her career objective is to become a sports broadcaster within the national media, preferably covering college football, MLB and NBA. Born in Texas, she grew up with the Cowboys on Thanksgiving and one-on-one father-daughter basketball games on the weekends. A graduate of McQueen High School in Reno, Nevada, Kupfer came to the University of Oregon in 2005 to earn her degree in electronic media. She hopes to eventually become an anchor or reporter for ESPN. She has worked with the NBC affiliate in Reno for the past two summers, gaining experience as a video editor and production assistant for both sports and local news. When she isn't watching the game, Kupfer enjoys dancing, snowboarding, singing and exercising.

HILLARY LAKE

Hillary Lake is a doctoral candidate at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication and will earn her Ph.D. in the spring of 2008. Hillary grew up in San Diego, California, and Klamath Falls, Oregon. She was the first "Spotlight on Teens" reporter at KOTI-TV in Klamath Falls from 1994-1995 and worked as a research production assistant on the NBC talkshow "Leeza", hosted by Leeza Gibbons, in Los Angeles. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication from Southern Oregon University and a Master's degree in Communication and Society from the University of Oregon. Her primary research interests involve the roles of women and minorities in television news and exploring how ethnographic methods can inform approaches to newsgathering. Her dissertation reports the results of a two-year ethnographic study of NBC News anchor and correspondent Ann Curry. Hillary has taught or assisted in both applied and theory-focused courses during her experiences as a graduate student. While Hillary aspires to someday be a university professor, right now, she looks forward to re-entering the professional side of television news. Hillary believes that journalism is a public service and is excited to be part of the Oregon News team.

LIORA LOBEL

Liora Lobel is a senior at the University of Oregon, majoring in journalism and minoring in business administration. Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Liora is also a student-athlete, playing for the Division I women's lacrosse team at the University of Oregon. She is not sure what the future holds for her, but after graduation she will return home and then travel Europe for a few months. She also hopes to pursue a Master’s degree in the Journalism/Communications sector in the near future.

MIKELLE MARKS

Mikelle Marks is a senior in her final term at the University of Oregon. She is an honors student majoring in electronic media and minoring in business administration. Upon graduation, she plans to briefly travel around Europe and then find a reporting job in either Eugene or Portland. In her spare time, Mikelle enjoys all outdoor activities, water sports, and traveling.

LISA POOL

Lisa Pool is a senior at the University of Oregon. She is graduating with a degree from the School of Journalism and Communication with a focus in electronic media. She was born and raised in Bend, Oregon, but went to high school in Central Point, Oregon graduating in 2004 before moving to Eugene. Upon graduation, Lisa would like to move South, preferably to Southern California to pursue a career in Entertainment News. Along with her news experience at the University of Oregon, Lisa’s news industry knowledge has grown with a production assistant job at KEZI. Some of her other interests include watching movies, sports, hanging out with her friends and listening to music.

PARIA SADIGHI

Paria Sadighi is from Los Angeles, California, and is a senior at the University of Oregon. Paria was a lead intern at ESPN where she learned all the different aspects of sports news and production. She hopes to work in international news where she believes her Middle Eastern background and fluency in Farsi will be most effective. She currently works as a student employee at the University of Oregon Athletic Ticket Office and at the Recreational Center. When Paria is not out on a shot or sitting at the editing bay and writing scripts, she loves to read, write, run and hike.

AMY UNG

Amy Ung is a senior at the University of Oregon. She is graduating this spring with a degree in journalism. Amy found out at an early age that she enjoyed writing and was concerned about current events. This led her to try different majors until she found her niche in electronic media. Amy is currently a writing intern for the Portland CW, a publicity assistant for the Department of Music and Dance, and an advertising executive for the Oregon Daily Emerald. In her spare time Amy enjoys long adventurous hikes, watching chick flicks, and hanging out with friends and family. Upon graduation she aspires to continue working in the television realm and travel around the world.
