payroll: SEIU Vacation Cash-out
MEMORANDUM
TO: Deans, Directors and Department Heads
HR and Payroll Contacts
FROM: Linda King, Associate Vice President for Human Resources
SUBJECT: VACATION CASH-OUT UNDER SEIU CONTRACT
I write to make you aware of an important change in the SEIU contract with
respect to the opportunity to "cash out" vacation in January 2010. SEIU
represented employees have the choice to "cash out" up to 40 hours of
vacation to be paid in January, provided they have a minimum of 80 hours
of accrued vacation leave remaining after the cash-out. (SEIU-OUS
Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article 47, section 17)
The option to "cash out" vacation is not new to the contract; however
there is a new requirement that the request for the payment must be made
no later than December 31 of this year for the January 2010 payment. The
request to "cash out" vacation cannot be revoked after December 31. The
language and procedural change was made to protect SEIU employees from
unintended tax consequences.
The form to request a "cash-out" is available on the Human Resources
website at: http://hr.uoregon.edu/policy/Cash%20out%20form%202008.pdf
We will send this information to all classified employees as required
under the new SEIU collective bargaining agreement. In addition, your
help in communicating this information to your staff and complying with
the new contract language is appreciated.
Please contact Joan Walker (6-2970), jwalker@uoregon.edu, if you have
questions.
