Text-Based

The text-based pages are used mostly for papers, reports, and articles on the net.  Many on-line search engine use this media primarily, such as infoseek, library collection, and other similar databases.  This media is utilized to store and provide large database and information effectively.   Pages can be presented purely in text or in text aided with 2D images.

Library of Leisure

In my webpage designated for the terminal project, "Library of Leisure", both Statement of Intent and Program are text-based.   The reason I have chosen this way of presenting the materials is that it gives a full version of data.  I also provide two ways of presenting the material: html version and acrobat version.  It seems that in html format the article is very difficult to read while in acrobat format, it is easier.

Survey Result

After sitting down with some students, most of them felt that description gives thorough background of the project; however, reading a long writing on the net is dry.  Some of them did not finish the reading.

Although most of people felt, it is dry.  They agree that it is still necessary for a database such as infoseek to be in text primarily.   However, it will still be more enjoyable if there are some images.

Advantages Disadvantages
  • easy retrieve and access to the pages
  • thorough and large quantity of information
  • enable to be incorporated with database and search engine
  • lack of stimulation
  • lack of interaction
  • difficult to read on the screen
  • reviewers tend to not finish the reading
