Since
2D images are still static in term of interaction and presenting
ideas. Some aided effects are utilized to increase
the stimulation on viewing the image as well as the interaction.

In
this website, the page creator, John Maeda, largely uses
java applet to the 2D images and thus adds more stimulation
for viewers; for instance, the logo
he designed for MIT Lab is constantly moving.
He
also uses java applet to create simple games, and thus,
to increase interaction to the 2D images; two games in the
project he was commissioned by Shiseido: "do
re mi-chi" and "oikake zukura".
There
are more projects in his webpage about incorporating 2D
images with java applets.

In this
page from MIT Media Lab by Glorianna Davenport
uses Java language incorporating database to nevigate through
the information and pictures she has created for the memoir
on Jerome B. Wiesner.
The design
of the page is using the roll-over effects from Java Script
and language to search and link to the related data.
The visual effect as well as data presntation are effective
and efficient.
This
page is in between of the 2D and 3D presentation, discussed
in the next page, since she also has database of videos.
