Jamie Messenger

Jamie
I am a senior majoring in Environmental Science.  Oregon has been my home for the past two years.  I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to live and study in this beautiful state. I am passionate about protecting our natural resources and I plan to work with conservation organizations after graduation.  As a member of the Xstream Team, I have enjoyed learning about environmental education and implementing it in the classrooms of local schools.  I believe education is the key to increasing environmental awareness and the inspiration to bring people to action!

I am the mother of four children.  Currently, four of us are in college. I have volunteered with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and sports’ programs for my children.   I have worked many years as a landscaper, BLM and Forest Service worker.   I repelled from helicopters, fought forest fires, tree improvement and wildlife biology during my years in the woods. I enjoy spending time on rivers during the warmer months.   I recently relocated to Eugene from Southern Oregon, transferring from Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

Amanda Fay

Amanda
My name is Amanda Fay and I was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii.  After graduating high school I made my way here to Eugene, which has become my second home.  This is my fourth year here at the University of Oregon and I have enjoyed every minute of it.   I am an environmental science and geography double major with my main interest in the study of climate.  I wallow in the outdoors whether it is hiking, camping, or bike riding, but my true passion is for water.  I enjoy taking part in anything in, on, under, or around the water, no matter what the temperature.  I am a member of the U of O women’s club water polo team and have been a swimmer for my whole life.  While indoors I enjoy reading, cooking, eating, coloring, watching movies or sports on TV, and simply staring outside.  I also love to travel and hope to visit each of the 7 continents during my lifetime.

Ryan Warner-Steel

Ryan
I am a senior, double majoring in biology and environmental studies.  Growing up in Oregon I developed a love of the outdoors and all of its plants and animals.  My main area of interest is evolution, which I plan to study next year in graduate school.  I am a strong advocate of DIY (do it yourself) ethic, egalitarian social movements and atheism.  Environmental education is a huge part of understanding our world and taking a course of action to make it a better place for all life.
