This
building, completed in 1999, received the regional "Energy
Smart Award" for its ecological design. Some of these design
features include double-paned, UV rated windows along the front
of the building, which regulated inside temperatures and reduce
the need for heating and cooling. Motion detectors are also used
throughout the building to limit non-essential lighting and air
circulation.
One very interesting
feature is the capture of steam created by the warmth of the pool
and the locker room showers that is reused for heating elsewhere
-- like a mini-steam power plant. In addition, the new weight room
south is notable for its "smart lighting" system, of which
a similar system will be installed in the main weight rooms this
summer.
