Many Eugene club hoppers find themselves at the front door of the self-proclaimed
“Hottest nightclub in Eugene” Taboo at 23 West Sixth
Ave. This nightclub opened in November 2005 as “The
Belly Up.” After club owners and affiliated partners
couldn’t agree on the name, the grand opening of “Taboo”
welcomed clubbers on New Year’s Eve 2005. Owners of
the club are Jeff Lowe, Jeff Gaulton and Stevan Jeffe.
Taboo is a larger nightclub with an estimated capacity of 770 people,
according to the owners. The club includes many newly purchased
plush couches, flat-screen TVs, a main center bar and two smaller
bars on the surrounding walls. An upper level stage hosts
the DJ, overlooking the hardwood dance floor. There is also
a VIP room to host parties and private events.
Taboo, like many other nightclubs in the bar entertainment scene,
has something for the days of the week too. Sunday and Monday,
however, are days of rest and Taboo’s door are closed.
Tuesday starts Taboo’s week with open mic night. Wednesdays
provide a new flavor to the downtown nightclub scene with a “Street
Fair” feel. The night provides two female DJs of techno
music. Guests can come enjoy an atmosphere of belly dancing
and world beats while shopping the scene for beads, hairpieces,
scarves and much more. Thursday nights are open and anything
can happen. On Friday and Saturday nights, DJ Tekneek spins
for a night of dancing, drinking and fun.
Taboo is well known for the $2 drinks available every day of operation and on Fridays it’s all you can drink for $15.
