About This Print
This print picturing the NHK Museum of Broadcast in Atagoyama in Tokyo, formerly the Tokyo Broadcasting Station, is one of only two prints by Sekino published by Watanabe Shōzaburō. While this print does not bear any Watanabe publishing seals, other impressions, such as the one shown below, do bear the publisher's 6mm round seal in the lower left portion of the image.
It is likely that this print would have been carved and printed by Watanabe staff rather than by Sekino
himself. The 1962 catalog of the publisher S. Watanabe lists this print on p. 82 and assigns it the inventory number Cp 2 and notes that it is sold out.
While Japan's first radio broadcast at 9.30 a.m. on March 22, 1925 was transmitted from a temporary studio of the Tokyo Broadcasting Station in Tokyo's Shibaura district, the radio station that came on line in July of that same year at Atagoyama in Tokyo, became known as "the birth place of Japanese broadcasting."
