About This Print
This March 1892 print depicts a meeting of the second Diet, following the February 1892 election of the House of Representatives, along with a complete list of all the Diet members and a view of the exterior of the National Diet Building. The names of the 251 members of the House of Peers appear on the right and those of the 300 members of House of Representatives on the left.
This second election resulted from the dissolution of the first Diet in December 1891, due to a budget impasse. The second Diet would be dissolved in December 1893.
