About This Print

A scene in a typical farm house in Ohara on the outskirts of Kyoto.  The women who lived in the village, known as Oharame (woman of Ohara), sold their farm products in Kyoto, travelling there by foot and cart. 

Wada captures a mother holding her baby and the baby's grandmother wearing the distinctive clothing of Oharame consisting of, most prominently, an indigo blue kimono (sometimes patterned, sometimes not) with a white kerchief.

Today, the Ohara Tourist Information Center (Ohara Kanko Hoshokai), offers an Oharame experience where one can don traditional dress for a small fee.

This print was announced in the 1953 catalog of the publisher as shown below.

This picture shows the kitchen of Japanese farm-house which was done by SANZO WADA.  He made his utmost efforts to bring out the color of the interior of the typical Japanese farmers home.
The number of pictures are limited to 200, these pictures will be sold only according to your subscription they be completed by 30th of January 1954.  Dimension: 14 1/2" x 18".
