Educational philosophy:
Moss St. approaches care for children using a variety of current educational philosophies. Children are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that encourage exploration and development of children’s skills, primarily in the areas of social and emotional growth. Teachers facilitate activities that are generated by children’s ideas and areas of interest, or are designed to enhance specific skills. In our Parent Handbook, you can read a more indepth description of our Guiding Principles.

About Us:
Moss Street provides child care services for university and community families at our campus site, Moss Street Children's Center, 1685 Moss Street.

We are certified by the State of Oregon Child Care Division and in the process of becoming accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Moss Street Children's Center is home year round to 8 classrooms that provide age appropriate programs for children from infancy through elementary school.

Each classroom is staffed with a talented and skilled teacher of young children. Our lead teachers have from 5 to 20 years of classroom experiences. Their education ranges from associate degrees in early childhood education to those who have graduate degrees. All staff participate in continuing training and professional development.

These lead teachers are assisted by student aides and assistants. This group of university students bring lots of energy to their work with children and allow us to exceed mandated adult to child staffing ration. These students, also receive training and on-going supervision. Many gain valuable skills that help them in their future careers and if they eventually become parents.

For over 40 years, the Moss Street Children's Center has provided loving care and fun developmental opportunities to generations of children in our community. Please review the materials on this web site to determine if Moss Street programs seem a good match for your familys needs. We hope your family will join the Moss Street clan.
