Stalking The Strip

STALKING THE STRIP: cataloging West 11th examines walking and photography as ways to apprehend processes and legacies in the landscape that are not immediately perceptible. The ubiquitous strip of North America, locally experienced on Eugene’s West 11th Street, home to national chains built over hundreds of acres of drained and filled wetlands. This project was motivated by my own desire to shed light on the complex factors, impacts and legacies of the broad streets, strip malls and big box stores of West 11th. This project examined hidden infrastructure such as drains, towers, and fences, and focused especially on the structures as signifiers for underlying systems.
