Hypothesis
The integrated control system at Clackamas controls both the lighting and the mechanical heating/cooling systems. The classrooms are monitored by occupancy and photocell sensors. When classrooms are unoccupied the electric lights should be shut off. When the classrooms are occupied the window-side ballasts are programmed to turn off when the daylighting is meets the task lighting demand. The ballasts further in toward the inner building core are connected to a continuous dimmer system, and they are programmed to supplement the daylighting as needed to meet task lighting demands. Our theory is that due to false triggers and/or system malfunction the lights are actually being turned on unnecessarily. As a corollary hypothesis we tried to determine if the lights are dimming as expected. |
