No class.
-

Warnings on Problem 10:
-
Be careful: some of the
labelled points are actually not on the graph.
(These are shown as open circles.)
-
The wording is bad: the question should
ask about values in the domain.
-
"Relative maximum" is used for "local maximum", etc.
-
Contrary to the convention in our
textbook, this problem considers an endpoint of the domain to be
local extremum if it looks like one from just one side.
(Unfortunately, the only other problem like this I could
find has worse defects.)
-
Friday 24 January:
-
Worksheet used in class
(corrected: the derivative of cos (x) was wrong on the original).
-
Solutions to the worksheet used in class.
(This has been corrected and expanded from what was given out in the 9:00
am class.)
-
Written Homework 3 part 2 (pdf) due in class,on paper.
-
Solutions to Written Homework 3 part 2
(pdf).
-
WeBWorK assignment NCP_2025W_W3D5 due, 9:00 pm.
Comments:
-
There was enough difficulty with function evaluation on Midterm Zero
that I have added three problems on finding different quotients.
-
All functions occurring in differentiation problems can be rewritten
to be in the form we have already seen how to differentiate during
Week 2.
-
All absolute maximum and absolute minimum problems are of the sort
we have already seen.
-
The function in the maximization word problem can be rewritten to be
in the form we have already seen how to differentiate. The problem
comes with a picture; many later such problems won't.
