description | Spanish 101-102-103 is a three-quarter sequence designed for students with no prior knowledge of Spanish. The course emphasizes the development of true proficiency in speaking and listening, and students will also learn to read short texts and write compositions. In addition to acquiring language skills, students interact with ideas, people, texts, and images from many Spanish-language cultures and learn new content in history, geography, and ethnography.
Students with one or more years of Spanish study should enroll in the SPAN 111-112, a two-quarter sequence with the same cultural and linguistic focus as 101-102-103, but designed for students with substantial experience in studying Spanish (or another Romance language) or who are excellent language learners. |
