Stanley James, MD completed his medical degree and residency in internal medicine and orthopedics at the University of Iowa Medical School where he still retains an Honorary Faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. James has been a practicing orthopedist in Eugene, Oregon for many decades (Orthopedic Health Care Northwest). He has been very active in the field of Sports Medicine; as medical director of the US Track and Field Olympic Trials (1976 and 1980) and as a medical consultant for the US Nordic Ski Team. He is a founding member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and continues to be active in sports medicine education and research with his faculty appointment in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon. Dr. James was recently honored as the 2006 recipient of the "Distinguished Alumnus Award for Achievement" from the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.
