Working remotely during the pandemic, undergrads in Math 199 and a few math department members created these pieces and the linked descriptions. They are part of the Creativity Counts exhibit, on display April 10 through July 11, 2021 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

"Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country," claimed the mathematician D. Hilbert. Ideas from abstract mathematics have transcended millennia and cultures, pandemics and social movements. Who gets to engage with mathematics and be recognized for contributions has often been limited to privileged groups, though. Mathematics’s universal truths and captivating patterns can be much more widely appreciated than cultural restrictions have often dictated.
